The environment
Bilice
Bilice is an insider tip for those who want to relax undisturbed.
The small village with around 2,300 inhabitants in the heart of Dalmatia is 5km from the town of Sibenik.
It is only 13 km to the KRKA National Park, which is known for its large waterfalls.
Various restaurants and cafés as well as a small supermarket are within walking distance of the house.
Sibenik
Located on the Bay of Sibenik, the most naturally protected harbor on the Adriatic. You can reach the place by boat from Vodice or via the coastal road. For visitors interested in history or for romantics, there is a lot to discover when wandering through the winding streets.
Not far from Sibenik is the mouth of the Krka River, which pushes itself into the sea through a 2.5 km long canal-like breakthrough.
Krka waterfalls
The Krka National Park covers most of the river course and the riparian region of the Krka river of the same name, from the historic town of Knin, not far from its origin, to Skradin. In Skradin the course of the Krka river turns into a long and deep sea bay.
The attraction of the national park are the seven waterfalls. The largest and most beautiful waterfalls are Skradinski buk and Roški slap. Along the Krka and the lakes you can find many old fortress ruins, mills and some monasteries. The Franciscan monastery on the island of Visovac deserves special mention. The approximately 1 hectare island was partly artificially built up. You can reach it with one of the numerous excursion boats that operate on the lake.
Trogir
Driving south from Sibenik on the Adriatic road, you reach the town of Trogir after about 80 km. The old town with its many narrow streets is located on an island. This is located between the mainland and another much larger island called Ciovo. In the city, which is over 2,000 years old, a close juxtaposition of churches, palaces and town houses, Gothic and Romanesque windows, narrow streets and bright courtyards, archways and limestone stairs create a Mediterranean flair. Many small shops, street cafes and restaurants in old walls also do the rest.
Split
Split is the largest city in Dalmatia and the cultural, economic, scientific, sports and tourist center in Croatia. The Diocletian Palace with the immediately adjacent old town is absolutely worth seeing. Right next to it is the Cathedral of Sv. Duje, the converted mausoleum of Emperor Diocletian. The bell tower can be climbed for a small fee. From the top you have a wonderful view over the harbor facilities, the old town and the surrounding mountains. The ruins in nearby Salona are also worth seeing.
Zadar
Zadar is the largest city in northern Dalmatia. Zadar is the center of shipping, economy, culture and tourism in Croatia. Shipbuilding, the textile industry, and the food and spirits industries are important employers in the city. There are constant ferry connections to all important destinations on the northern and southern Adriatic coast and with Italy. Ancona, Trieste and Venice in particular can be visited by car ferry. The historic city center of Zadar is particularly worth seeing. This lies on a peninsula surrounded by mighty fortifications.
Skradin
Skradin is an old pirate town with a harbor for sailing ships and motorboats right near the Krka waterfalls. Skradin can be reached by boat from Sibenik / Bilice, but is also accessible by car. From here boats go into the national park. Nice ambience, picturesque town with many small streets. Pirate bars and nice wine bars.
Knin
It doesn't always have to be the coast. The hinterland in Croatia also has special charms. Although Knin is only 56 km from Sibenik and therefore from the coast, hardly any tourists get lost here.
The main attraction of the small town is a huge fortress ruins on Mount Spas.
East of Knin, the Krka rises from a spring below a waterfall before this karst river begins its 70 km long journey to the sea.
Vodice
The town is located 13 km from Sibenik on a shallow bay, between Cape Borovnik and Vrulja Bay. The former fishing village has now become a popular holiday resort. At the harbor you will find numerous souvenir stalls and a market as well as exchange offices. Here and in the old town, numerous restaurants and pubs await their guests. A liner runs between Sibenik and Vodice several times a day. It docks at the islands of Privic and Zlarin
